Wide Print Goes Up A Gear

In response to growing demand and projects of 1,000m wide width plus, W&I has invested in batching, guiders, de-batching and a bespoke heavy-duty inspection and making-up machine. The investment involved moving 10 tonnes of Monti press to accommodate the extended production line, which is now in-line from initial batching of the PFP, through pressing and on to final inspection and packing of rolls.

Winching equipment and an overhead gantry ease the handling of rolls up to 1,000m in size, making a highly efficient and smooth operation. “Getting these big rolls into and out of pressing is important to “pair up” with paper roll sizes of around 800m. It is now possible to print one of these batches per day …. although it is a long day!”, quipped Peter Hamilton, MD.
